Calendar Science & Leap Year Rules

Computing calendar math accurately requires handling Gregorian calendar quirks. Under the Gregorian calendar rules:

Standard Rule:Every year divisible by 4 is a leap year with 366 days (February has 29 days).
Century Exception:Years divisible by 100 are NOT leap years (e.g. 1900, 2100).
400-Year Quadricentennial:Years divisible by 400 ARE leap years (e.g. 1600, 2000, 2400).

Date Calculator FAQs

Are time zones factored into date difference calculations?

Calculations are normalized to local calendar boundaries (midnight to midnight) based on your browser's active timezone, preventing accidental 1-hour daylight saving offsets from corrupting whole-day counts.
